Salve Intelligent Delivery Engine (SIDE)

SIDE (Salve Intelligent Delivery Engine) is a feature in Salve that sends automated, plain text messages to patients based on specific triggers in their treatment journey. With the Salve Intelligent Delivery Engine (SIDE™), you can engage people automatically – from before they start treatment, all the way to repeat cycles. These messages can help keep patients informed, supported, and on track without manual input from clinic staff.

Key Benefits:

  • Reduces staff workload by automating routine communications
  • Improves patient engagement and reduces missed appointments
  • Ensures consistent messaging across all patients
  • Personalises communication using patient data

Examples of SIDE messages:

  • "Hi {{{First Name}}}, welcome to our patient app – we will send you messages, treatment info and medication reminders all via the Salve app..."
  • "Hi {{{First Name}}}, Just a reminder that you will need a full bladder for the embryo transfer. You will have been advised when to fill your bladder by a member of the laboratory team..."
  • "Hi {{{First Name}}}, We hope you are feeling well after your egg collection.

You may feel tired and have mild period-like pains and some vaginal bleeding..."

🔔 SIDE vs Push Notifications

SIDE messages appear as in-app messages within the Salve app (under the Messages section). Push notifications are mobile alerts that pop up on the patient's phone home screen (similar to a notification from Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp) letting the patient know that something is waiting for them in the app.

Push notifications support engagement. SIDE messages provide the actual content.

How to Set Up a SIDE Message

SIDE messages are set up and managed by the Salve team. To request a new SIDE message, please email hello@salveapp.co.uk with the following details:

  1. Trigger:
    • Appointment type, medication, or other EMR trigger (e.g. "Baseline scan")
  2. Timing:
    • When should the message be sent? (e.g. 1 day before or after the appointment)
  3. Time Unit:
    • Minutes, hours, days, or weeks
  4. Content:
    • The message text you'd like to send to the patient

Variables Available in Message Templates

You can personalise SIDE messages using variables. These will only be displayed if the data is available at the time of sending:

{{{Appointment Time}}} Time of appointment "10:00 am"
{{{Appointment Day}}} Day of the week "Thursday"
{{{Appointment DateTime}}} Full date & time "July 9th 2020, 10:00 am"
{{{Site}}} Clinic site name "London Clinic"
{{{Staff First Name}}} Assigned staff's first name "Dr. Jane"
{{{Staff Last Name}}} Assigned staff's last name "Wilson"

Best Practices for SIDE Messages

  • Keep messages concise and actionable: patients prefer brief, clear instructions
  • Use a friendly, supportive tone: fertility treatment can be emotionally challenging
  • Include specific instructions when needed: avoid vague language
  • Test timing carefully: ensure messages arrive at convenient times
  • Consider patient time zones for multi-location clinics
  • Personalise appropriately: use variables to make messages feel personal but professional
